Cruising speed and responsive turning are also improved thanks to a 75-horsepower increase – making your total 310 horsepower. So, how does the new Cadillac XT5 provide utility and versatility on the road? First of all, through the Cadillac XT5 towing capacity. The base tow rating of this midsize SUV is 1,000 pounds,1 just enough for small toys like canoes and kayaks. However, if your vacation involves multiple Jet Skis or a teardrop camper, you can rely on the 3.6-liter V-6 with the Smart Towing Package to bump your total to 3,500 pounds.1
Where the base engine shines is fuel efficiency. When using premium fuel, the 2.7-liter four-cylinder reaches an EPA-estimated 22/29/24 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).2 The 3.6-liter V-6 is just a bit less efficient to compensate for its impressive horsepower and torque, with up to an EPA-estimated 19/26/21 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).3 Each powertrain can come in available AWD, which improves your handling but lowers fuel efficiency slightly.
It’s important to remember that, to reach these optimal horsepower and fuel efficiency numbers, you need to refill with premium fuel. While it is possible to use regular gas, you’ll notice reduced responsiveness and lower real-world MPG.
Pairing excellently with the capable engine is a sturdy chassis designed for family comfort and ease of driving. At a length of 189.6 inches, a height of 66.1 inches, and a width of 74.9 inches, this midsize SUV thrives in its urban maneuverability while keeping its size commanding enough to be readily noticeable. A 112-inch wheelbase provides a wide connection to the road, allowing you to cruise comfortably while knowing you feel planted and sturdy on the interstate.
According to Car & Driver, the Cadillac XT5 ground clearance is a happy medium of 7.8 inches4 – high enough to absorb the impact of potholes and low enough for easy boarding. When you step into the cabin, you’ll feel how those luxurious priorities permeate throughout the interior. Sit back and relax thanks to the standard eight-way power driver’s seat and six-way power passenger seat. Where most SUV models save their good cargo space specs for when the rear rows are folded in, the Cadillac XT5 has enough room behind your second row for luggage, groceries, coolers, umbrellas, beach chairs, storage crates, and so much more. However, that isn’t the maximum possible cargo space of the Cadillac XT5; fold the rear row down to access up to 63 cubic feet of storage capability. That gives you the room for two-person camping trips with camps and hammocks or enough space for a spontaneous day of antiquing.
The last stop on our journey of highlights is a recommendation by government-approved organizations about how safe the Cadillac XT5 is for families.
