Two Incredible Powertrains: Cadillac XT5 Engine Options

The Cadillac XT5 is equipped with your choice between two intricately designed powertrains: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine and a 3.6-liter V-6 option (available for the XT5 Premium Luxury and standard on the Sport trim). Each comes standard with front-wheel drive and can be upgraded to all-wheel drive for improved handling and control. The Cadillac XT5 transmission features a nine-speed automatic configuration for all powertrain options, providing smooth acceleration and effortless speed maintenance.

For most models, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is your standard offering. This engine produces 235 horsepower when fueled with premium gasoline, reaching a height of 258 pound-feet of torque to make merging easy.

Upgrading to the 3.6-liter V-6 isn’t just an increase in overall acceleration (though the 271 pound-feet of torque makes for a noticeable improvement in 0-60 time). Cruising speed and responsive turning are also improved thanks to a 75-horsepower increase – making your total 310 horsepower. The V-6 provides responsive and thrilling performance without being overwhelming for newer drivers.

Capable & Eco-Friendly: Cadillac XT5 MPG & Towing Rating

So, how does the new Cadillac XT5 provide utility and versatility on the road? First of all, through the Cadillac XT5 towing capacity. The base tow rating of this midsize SUV is 1,000 pounds,1 just enough for small toys like canoes and kayaks. However, if your vacation involves multiple Jet Skis or a teardrop camper, you can rely on the 3.6-liter V-6 with the Smart Towing Package to bump your total to 3,500 pounds.1

Where the base engine shines is fuel efficiency. When using premium fuel, the 2.7-liter four-cylinder reaches an EPA-estimated 22/29/24 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).2 The 3.6-liter V-6 is just a bit less efficient to compensate for its impressive horsepower and torque, with up to an EPA-estimated 19/26/21 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).3 Each powertrain can come in available AWD, which improves your handling but lowers fuel efficiency slightly.

It’s important to remember that, to reach these optimal horsepower and fuel efficiency numbers, you need to refill with premium fuel. While it is possible to use regular gas, you’ll notice reduced responsiveness and lower real-world MPG.

Maneuverable Yet Durable: Cadillac XT5 Dimensions

Pairing excellently with the capable engine is a sturdy chassis designed for family comfort and ease of driving. At a length of 189.6 inches, a height of 66.1 inches, and a width of 74.9 inches, this midsize SUV thrives in its urban maneuverability while keeping its size commanding enough to be readily noticeable. A 112-inch wheelbase provides a wide connection to the road, allowing you to cruise comfortably while knowing you feel planted and sturdy on the interstate.

According to Car & Driver, the Cadillac XT5 ground clearance is a happy medium of 7.8 inches4 – high enough to absorb the impact of potholes and low enough for easy boarding. The exterior Cadillac XT5 specs are built for the family who wants a luxurious experience, the perfect mixture of size and nimbleness.

Spacious & Versatile: Cadillac XT5 Interior Dimensions

When you step into the cabin, you’ll feel how those luxurious priorities permeate throughout the interior. Five passengers can benefit from the blissful Cadillac XT5 dimensions that elevate your cabin. Those in the front row, for example, can enjoy up to 41.2 inches of front-row legroom. Sit back and relax thanks to the standard eight-way power driver’s seat and six-way power passenger seat. Your rear-seat passengers get 39 inches of rear legroom to stretch out in, so as your family grows, they don’t need to feel cramped in the rear seat.

We’ve already touched on the towing capacity, but the trunk and maximum cargo space are where the Cadillac XT5 steps beyond what you’d expect from many midsize luxury SUVs. The Cadillac XT5 trunk space of 30 cubic feet has to be seen to be believed. Where most SUV models save their good cargo space specs for when the rear rows are folded in, the Cadillac XT5 has enough room behind your second row for luggage, groceries, coolers, umbrellas, beach chairs, storage crates, and so much more. However, that isn’t the maximum possible cargo space of the Cadillac XT5; fold the rear row down to access up to 63 cubic feet of storage capability. That gives you the room for two-person camping trips with camps and hammocks or enough space for a spontaneous day of antiquing.

Made For Your Peace of Mind: Cadillac XT5 Safety Rating

The last stop on our journey of highlights is a recommendation by government-approved organizations about how safe the Cadillac XT5 is for families. Thanks to a web of intricate safety features, including the base Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert, the Cadillac XT5 earned a five-star rating from the NHTSA.5 This includes a full five-star rating for overall frontal and side crash resistance, showcasing how effectively the Cadillac XT5 is designed to protect you and yours.5

However, part of that high score is crash prevention programs. Standard features, such as Front and Rear Park Assist, Safety Alert Seat, and Front Pedestrian Braking, are some examples of how the XT5 enhances your driving through automated driving assistance and advanced sensors. Available options, such as HD Surround Vision, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and a Following Distance Indicator, gives drivers with the Technology package – often available through our new Cadillac specials – an edge in innovation.
